7 Small Ways to Add Color to Your Home
We’re a big fan of color here at An Aesthetic Life! We love to see the unique ways that people add color to their home, and luckily, there are tons of ways to do that. Obviously, there are bigger ways like buying colorful furniture or painting your walls, but sometimes, you just want a small pop of color to add to your space. Maybe you’re renting your space, so you can’t do anything big or perhaps you’re just looking for low effort ideas to make your space feel more cozy and fun. In any case, you’ll want to steal these ideas.
Pillows
If you’re looking for a subtle pop of color that’s going to match the rest of your space, we highly recommend adding some pillows. Pillows are a great way to add both color and texture since there are so many different types and sizes out there. You can even layer your pillows with different colors in order to create an entire palette. (I love working from a color palette when decorating!) This would be great for your living room, your reading nook, or your bedroom.

Bedspread
A colorful bedspread can add color to your bedroom without being overwhelming. If you’re someone who actually makes their bed, the perfect bedspread can really pull together a room. It’s also another example of something that can add different texture to your room depending on what type of bedspread you pick. Another option is adding a blanket to the bottom of the bed to create layers of color.

Planters
This is a super small way to add color to your home, but it can be powerful. You can put multiple planters together to create a color scheme or you can simply use one big planter to add that pop of color. Plus, it has the added benefit of adding life and greenery to your home. If you’re a plant person (or you want to be), we always recommend fun planters!

Curtains
This might be an obvious one, but it’s worth mentioning. If you want to add color to a room, curtains are a great way to do that. Not to mention, they can really add to your room’s aesthetic based on how you hang them, their material, and the color/style of their rod. They’re also a slightly bigger statement than the other things on this list without needing to paint a room or buy a new piece of furniture. (Not that curtains aren’t pricy!)

Wallpaper
This one requires a lot of effort, but an accent wall with some really cool, colorful wallpaper can be a great way to add to your space. You don’t need to do the whole room to get the effect. Plus, with wallpaper, you can add multiple colors or a pattern to your space. There are some amazing wallpapers on Etsy as well as many renter-friendly wallpapers out there.

Mirror
Here’s a unique one! If you’ve got the ability, changing out your mirror to one with a colorful accent around the edge can be a great way to add color to your home. We love this because it can really add character to a room as well. The right mirror can pull together a space, even outside of your bathroom or bedroom.

Rugs
This might be another gimme, but just in case you haven’t thought of it yet, we’ll mention it! The right rug can really finish out a space by adding color and texture. Not to mention, if you’re living in an upstairs apartment, you might annoy your neighbors a little less! They can definitely get pricey, but they’re the perfect way to complete a space. Pro tip: you can also start with the rug. Find one you really love and build the space around it. That way, you can guarantee no color clashes!

There are so many other ways to add color to your home, from fun colored lamps to artwork to even small applicances like toasters. We recommend picking out a color palette ahead of time and then go to town picking out small items that work within it. You’d be surprised what you can find scrolling through Etsy or in a thrift store. If you’re looking for unique pieces, that’s where you’re going to find them. Happy decorating!
